About this drive
The Nishiseto Expressway, popularly known as the Shimanami Kaido, is one of Japan's most magical drives. The 60-kilometre route connects Onomichi on Honshu to Imabari on Shikoku via a chain of six islands and six extraordinary bridges across the Seto Inland Sea. Driving across these elegant suspension bridges with the shimmering sea below and terraced citrus groves and traditional villages on the islands is an unforgettable experience. The road is famous for its cycling paths too, but it is equally spectacular by car.
